Then when I got it, I realized that while the base was great and fabulous, the top was covered with vaneer (there goes the staining idea)!
I got a free sample of glidden paint with their giveaway a while back, so I used it (in antique white) to paint the base (after sanding it a bit),
and some black glossy paint and just painted a couple coats over the top (in retrospect I would use flat paint, the top is a little too shiny for a table)
It's not the original idea, but I love how it turned out; especially with the World Market table settings I bought!
The plan is to build a bench in the bay window in back of the table (like this one found on
remodeling guy),
and get some parsons chair with maybe an off white ruffly short slip cover (like this one from ana white)
